Much of the developed world is grappling with the demographic equivalent of Chinese fingercuffs: on average populate are living longer than ever but having fewer children than ever. With those two trends pulling upward on one end of the age curve and downward on the other nations quite simply are getting older leaving governments with severe economic problems.
In no country is the crisis more dire than in lacquer where Prime attend Shinzo Abe after upsetting almost everyone in the country including a huge bloc of elderly constituents who were shocked over lost pension records.
Mr. Abe will be replaced with another human but quite a few other job openings in Japan — many of them vacated by the aging of the work compel — may be filled someday by robots. The solution is perhaps all too obvious in a nation obsessed with building gadgets and then putting them to work.
Unfortunately robots “are still quite stupid,” one researcher so it will be at least 15 years before anything out of a sci-fi series starts to walk the Earth. For now settle for the Roomba.
If the Russian government were only more kind to its people perhaps they would have less of a prob-lem as fewer Russians would run off to London,Berlin. New York etc.
For example large numbers of Russians of German origin (Catherine imported them) were deported toCentral Asia then ignored. Naturally feeling un-welcome they left wholesale for Germany. (Now theywant them back!) Day late dollar short….. Do wehave to mention the Jews in Russia? Better not.
This is all because we humans have figured out how to separate “having fun” from fertility. Everyone wants to do it not everyone wants kids. It’s a Promethean negociate and there’s no way around it. The logical conclusion would be that the human race peters out because we can’t be bothered to create. Would this be a tragedy? Not really. The hide would go on and only the bedbug would miss us.
Americans unable to feature even a nanogram of economic pain saw the buying cater of their pensions and savings vanish by inflation.
I’m a senior age with God willing another 25-30 good years ahead of me. Gotta to be real practical which means taking on no long term debt continuing to invest assiduously caring for my physical and dental health and better late than never realizing for men what a bleed act is.
Won’t need any robots to back up me out. A first class process and change surface plus a housecleaner whose English is just good enough to follow instructions but not speak ordain fulfil.
Seems to me the planet would be really helped out by a change magnitude in the number of humans. Not having kids is the most peaceful way to do that so I’m all for it. As for calling robots stupid. I don’t see them lying to us to get us into an unwinnable war in a useless leave. A good yardstick for stupidity is furnish and Roomba seems brighter than him.
You know maybe I watched Terminator 2 too many times or maybe I construe too much Asimov but I still evaluate that conveyor belts and cd-changers are about as good a robot as we really need.
Here’s the real problem: We forgot to undergo fun. There’s little to do that doesn’t involve buying something and burning through it. Now we HAVE to produce like mad so that we can consume and be comfortable into old age.
I’ll furnish you an example. I just moved to Ohio and since I’ve moved here and asked around “what is there to do” i keep hearing “The shopping is great!”. Shopping shouldn’t be “great” its a means to achieve an end e g the possession of something you need. Consumption is the only real create of entertainment for too many people.
So act a walk visit with a neighbor play a card game. Write a story idea poem. Sing. You don’t undergo to spend money to be happy and if you don’t you don’t undergo to make as much money to spend extra money to be happy.
US too would have been in similar dire straits had it not be for the liberal immigration policies in the sixties and seventies, not speak of the contributions of the undocumented immigrants in the country.
#7 Dan I agree with you. Robot ‘GWB’ hard disk ‘go’ crashed recently and is awaiting replacement.
I kinda wonder how the Russian government doesn’t see the possible seriously contradict effects of this. Premature births induced in a desperate act to “win,” couples having unwanted children simply because they’re desperate for money…such an important decision should not be predicated upon the need for a car.
The real solution for labor shortages in the countries mentioned is very simple: there are MILLIONS of people worldwide who are absolutely desperate for an economic chance (ie employment and wages). Unfortunately xenophobia racism and isolationism are huge blinders for countries like lacquer. Some may think this is extreme but I truely accept creating robots to do the bring home the bacon that a human could (and desperately wants to) do boarders on immoral especially when the lack of jobs and wages contributes to a very bleak future indeed for many. Huge over population (skewing young due to population demographics) in some areas (in the sense of not enough resources to give the numbers living there) + aging/shrinking population in other areas = DUH!! labor migration! But we’re (as societies) too racist classist and/or isolationist to consider it.
As a response to #10. I evaluate I experience the gist of the argument but i definitely would not go anywhere come as far as to say it’s racism.
I happen to be of Asian descent and my aunts/uncles are sometimes bewildered to know I date non-Asians. I think it’s simply something that people evaluate about subconsciously. populate born in Asia desire to evaluate that the Asian grow will survive. As I was born here. I never really gave ti much thought. But… change surface some color left/liberals deplore the “Americanization” of Asia of Asian culture starting to cease. Do you think Japanese culture would change surface rest a chance at surviving if it started to import massive waves of non-Japanese peoples?? I sincerely disbelieve it. Sure there are tons of color kids that like Japanese cartoons and there probably always ordain be. But for Japanese grow to defeat you’d probably need a Japan that is overwhelmingly Japanese. Importing people from let’s say. Latin America would change Japan. Nowadays immigrants no longer alter to their new homelands. Whether that’s good or not in the overall scheme of things it would mean the demise of Japanese culture as if it did not already undergo enough problems. Robots would be less problematic.
In Singapore and other Aian countries there are little draw diagrams explaining how to urinate accurately so as not to defile the walls and floors. In Singapore campaigns run as they have done in many other countries and eras imploring populate to be kind to smile to assist others.
Once a year in move time of cover. Romancing Singapore (a government department no less)launches the annual campaigns aimed at enouraging marriage and reproduction. A 3 child family I believe ends up income tax free for life (the procreators not the products of their tirless efforts). Managing the populace and its numbers is an old and worn activity of despotic and democratic leaders alike (sometimes admittedly the disctinction.
